Once you have purchased a Britannia P50 fire extinguisher you do not need the services of an extinguisher engineer to maintain the unit. A regular visual inspection should be carried out by a competent person in line with your existing fire safety processes, usually monthly.

Once you have purchased a Britannia P50 fire extinguisher you do not need the services of an extinguisher engineer to maintain the unit. A regular visual inspection should be carried out by a competent person, this should include:

• Inspect the extinguisher units body for damage, ensure the hose has no debris and make sure the tamper seal is still intact and the unit has not been tampered with.
• Turn the extinguisher upside down and check the manufacturing date on the bottom of the unit, ensuring that your extinguisher is still within its 10 year life
• The extinguisher is fitted with two pressure gauges. These should read the same level but to double check, the untis are supplied with a magnet. The main pressure gauge has a steel needle and can be moved using the magnet. This shows that the needle is not stuck and is free-moving, reassuring you that the pressure reading is accurate.

The Britannia P50 fire extinguishers have a service label in the printed design on the back of the units. This should be filled out on the annual inspection, following the same steps as above.
